Calm-down timer

Give yourself a few protected minutes. The lantern dims slowly as the time passes, a gentle cue appears every half minute, and a soft bell tells you when it is over.

When to use it

Use the timer when you need a short, deliberate pause: after a difficult message, before a conversation you are dreading, when a child (or an adult) needs a calm-down corner, or simply between meetings. Choose a length, press start and let the screen do the remembering, so you do not have to watch the clock.

Three to five minutes suits most moments. One minute is enough to break a loop of worry; ten or fifteen gives you a proper rest.

What the cues do

With cues on, a short suggestion appears every 30 seconds: drop your shoulders, soften your jaw, lengthen the out-breath. They are written to be read once and then followed with your eyes closed if you like. Turn them off for a plain countdown. The full-screen button hides everything else, which helps on a shared tablet. The timer keeps correct time even if your screen dims.

Questions

Will the bell play if my phone is locked?

Browsers usually pause sound from pages in the background or on a locked screen. Keep the page open and in front; while it runs the timer asks your phone to keep the screen on where supported.

Can I pause and come back?

Yes. Pause keeps the remaining time; Reset goes back to the length you chose. Your chosen length and settings are remembered on this device for next time.

Is this useful for children?

It can be. A visible, calm countdown helps many children know how long a break will last. Sit with younger children and read the cues aloud together.
